Washington, Connecticut has been a favorite spot for the quintessential country home, providing luxury, privacy and stunning scenery to those who live here for many years. Homes of all sizes dot the countryside, some hidden on large estates. Beautiful antiques have been lovingly restored and renovated to the sophisticated country estates they are today. Washington, Connecticut is less than 2 hours from New York City, making this a favorite spot for a country retreat.

Washington, Connecticut has a rich history, and residents work hard to preserve this history and aesthetics of the town. Steep Rock Association, one of the oldest land trusts in the state, owns 3 major tracts of land that are favorites for walking along the Shepaug River, hiking the many trails, horseback riding, mountain biking, or just sitting and enjoying the magnificent scenery. Look for Steep Rock, Hidden Valley and Macricostas Preserve (Meeker Swamp), they are truly a gem for the area.

Another spectacular part of Washington, Connecticut is Lake Waramaug in New Preston. Homes along the lake have retained their original charm and beauty. Life along Lake Waramaug is an every changing feast for the eyes.  If you prefer golf or tennis, there is the Washington Club in town. More than a golf club, it is an important social activity for many townspeople.

Washington, Connecticut also has a rich art culture, the Washington Art Association is an active, vibrant part of the local culture. World class modern dance companies Momix and Pilobolus call Washington home.

Washington, Connecticut is home to The Mayflower Inn and Spa, a world renowned inn, spa and restaurant. Lunch at the Mayflower is a favorite for the locals, or a Sunday brunch on the deck enjoying the spectacular grounds at The Mayflower. The spa is also a favorite destination, bringing people from all over the world to enjoy Washington and The Mayflower. Another local favorite spot is the G.W. Tavern, with a warm and inviting atmosphere and great menu it is a wonderful spot to entertain friends, or have a quiet meal fireside.
