Harrybrooke Park was given to the residents of New Milford by Mr. Frank Harden in 1965. It is a private park, run by a board of directors. The park is in need of repair, and a renewed energy to raise money is apparent by all the activity we have seen in the past few years for them to reach their goal of restoring it to its former beauty. It is a lovely spot, I have spent many an afternoon there with my children when they were growing up over the years, and look forward to the same wonderful times and memories with my grandsons. I do hope to see you there!

I took this photo while on vacation while at a dear friends house on Martha’s Vineyard a few years back with my old Pentax point and shoot. Our spouses were both busy and couldn’t go, so we sadly said goodby to them and drove as fast as we could for a long weekend to his house on the Vineyard. The whole place is magical, his house is actually located within the confines of the Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge on Chappaquiddick Island. No electricity, unless you make your own, when the sun set we lit candles and oil lamps, drinking in the smells and sounds the ocean provides.

One side of the house faces the bay, the other side the ocean, with the lighthouse framed by the kitchen and my bedroom window. With the peace and quiet surrounding us, the smell of the ocean permeating everything, waves lulling me to sleep and night and waking me up in the morning, it was a dream come true. No intrusions from the outside world. The only way in or out is along the beach at low tide, any trips to the store have to be planned around the ebb and flow of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. What a life!

Simple meals, a boiled lobster, corn on the cob, a glass of wine and all the eye candy you can take in. Or how about cheese and wine on the beach, watching the sun setting? Not one other person as far as my eye could see, only the birds running along the beach, darting back and forth with the lap of the waves. We ate on the porch for breakfast, lunch and dinner, one special meal we ate ourselves silly on the steamers I had dug up.

Within my simple photo I see both the past and the future, the hard work of those before me who sacrificed all to tend the flames, the promise of a bright future ahead, the inescapable truth of the past and the fact that our future is full of promise, all is within our grasp. Nothing is impossible. All one has to do is to climb the stairs!

You would smell the faint sweetness of the old apple tree as I do…

I had set it to smell-o-vision…

I even got closer…

I went up underneath it…

But nothing… no smell at all! I tried to sit on the old chairs, but someone else was there, watching over all the birds overhead hiding in the branches…

He just didn’t feel like sharing with me.

Guess you will just have to be content with the regular photos, sans smell-o-vision, until ActiveRain gets fixed. Then perhaps you can not only enjoy my old apple tree in the spring, but you will get to smell it too!

I always suggest to my sellers BEFORE putting their home on the market that they have the well water tested. It just makes more sense to me and prevents a whole lot of hassle if an offer does come in and there are contaminants found in the water. But do know, a well found free of bacteria today does not mean it will be free from bacteria always, there are so many factors that enter into play with your well. Keeping the area around your wells in clean, good working condition is a must. Proper well caps will help, but there are natural occurring conditions that do affect our wells that are totally out of our control.

After this Easter, trashket is a new word for me. I put an Easter basket together for my three year old grandson, and of course the tradition in my house is that the Easter bunny brings sneakers. And he never, ever used a regular store bought Easter basket. He also doesn’t bring candy to my house, we have had an understanding for years…

And your house needs to stand out from the rest of the crowd too. Clean it up, clear it out, make the entrance into the home like my grandson’s Easter trashket, bright, attention getting, giving the buyer a feeling of… excitement about going inside. Paint your front door, put flowers outside, whatever you can do to add that wow factor! Give them a reason to remember your house as opposed to the others they will see. And then, of course, price it right!

When my grandson saw his Easter trashket he loudly exclaimed “WOW”, and for a three year old, to me, that was a very exciting moment for both he and I alike! And that is what you want those buyers to say, from the moment they see the marketing for your house to the time they actually walk up to the front door!

I have always been a bit curious as to what is happening with my posts as far as clicks go. I pay attention to the clicks and like to see what posts are getting a good amount of clicks. I can see a pattern here. The posts with the catchy titles have a better chance of being read. You will really see this as you scroll down the stat pages of your posts. I guess I really need to pay attention to those titles! The clever title catches the worm, or something like that.

Take a few minutes to see how many people are reading your stuff, and try to figure out why! You just might be surprised. And then, take a moment to tweet them, even if you wrote them a while ago.

I decided to tweet the above post, and in 2 minutes, see what happened? I don’t have many followers, so this surprised me. Only 124 people follow me, I don’t do a whole lot with Twitter. I have recently started tweeting posts, only some, not all.

Check your titles, tweet your posts, re-tweet later on, or if you didn’t tweet them in the first place tweet them now, and see what floats people’s boats as far as your posts are concerned.

Or you can always scratch your head and say….”I wonder why they are reading THAT post”….

I can go on and on about this, seriously. Have you been here? Taken the drive up Route 7 starting in New Milford, following the Housatonic River as it winds it’s way through Lichfield County. If you do take the Route 7 trip, you will find yourself in the beautiful town of Kent, CT. Or taking a side trip to Washington, within the Shepaug River Valley. Or how about the quaint town of Bridgewater? Roxbury? Warren? There is always Sherman, set in the upper most part of Fairfield County, another spectacular town tucked in the Berkshire foothills.

I love this region of Connecticut. And I love to sell real estate here. Introducing buyers to what we have to offer, showing off our beautiful towns, sharing what I like best about each of them. Who has a better job than I do?

If you are looking for a larger town with all the conveniences of a city, try New Milford. We have stores and restaurants enough for all tastes, preferences, wallet sizes. New Milford has the luxury of being the largest town area wise in Connecticut at 64 square miles. We have Candlewood Lake, the Housatonic River, Lake Lillinonah, hiking trails, preserved farmland, active farms, beautiful subdivisions, antique homes, luxury estates, eye candy galore, you name it, we have it! A fun fact about New Milford, CT. The home that inspired the movie “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House” is here, or so I was told.  I have been in it, the last time it was on the market. I can understand why the writer was so inspired, if it is indeed a true fact!

If you prefer a smaller, more intimate setting you should look at Washington, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Kent, Warren or Sherman. Each town has it’s own flavor, places well known to those who live there for outdoor fun, for fine dining, for unique shopping and more. From water activities on Candlewood Lake and Lake Waramaug to hiking the Appalacian Trail as it winds through Kent, how about the peace and quiet of a walk through Steep Rock in Washington, just to name a few of the things we have to offer those that call Litchfield County their home. The rolling countryside is breathtakingly beautiful, words cannot express what I am lucky enough, make that blessed enough to see every day. Many people from New York City have made their country homes in Litchfield County the perfect escape from the hectic lifestyle of big city life.
